7/7 Dayville, OR-Close to Prineville, OR 90miles

It had been a while since the Dutchman and I rode into yellowstone so it was nice to get another rider for at least a day. We headed out of the tiny town of Dayville into some great scenery as we followed the John Day River west. Dustin had wanted to see this place called the Painted Hills since he was a kid so we were going to ask about it in the town of Mitchell which was on the backside of a decent pass we had to climb.
Painted Hills

On the way though was a great ride. Love those cool mornings!

Afterwards, our day got real interesting with a brutal 6.5 mile climb over the Ochocee Pass. Not very high in elevation but unrelenting. Second hardest since the pass over Rocky Mountain National Park on the second day. Also had some modest heat to contend with.

Thank the lord for the thighs of steel I've developed!

Finally at the top.

Coasted more or less for the last 23 miles into a large lake-side campground. Couldn't wait to jump in the lake and shower. Tough day.

Pasta was on the camp menu for the night followed by canned peaches and pears.
