Went to the beach last night after getting settled in at the state park 2 miles south of town. Brought my book planning on doing some reading and wearing every article of clothing I had brought with me, froze! The wind was howling so much as well that I had to leave before the sun set.
The light was so perfect that the only thing I could think of to take a picture of was me!
Dinner, as I had wanted, was clam chowder followed by halibut, salmon, and tuna. Hopefully, that menu will prevail for the remaing trip up the coast.
So I was hoping to just sleep in and take my time and mozy on up the coast to Lincoln City. However, 6am came and up I went. So much for sleeping in. Got going and lolly gagged back north to Newport and hit the library at 10 when it opened. Yesterday, when i rolled into town I asked someone for a good seafood restaurnat and all the restaurants were located in the historic bayfront. A little touristy but unavoidable. So lunch at the Local Ocean it was going to be. Had my first of hopefully many Dungeness crab washed down with an Oregon microbrew from Rogue BRewery which I knew fairly well which is located in this town. Again, seafood and microbrews will continue.
One of my snack breaks
Ice cream sandwich, chips, cheese crackers, candy bar and a little water. Really going to miss this aspect of biking!
Finally got out of town around 1! Traveled up 101 to Otter Creek where i stopped to check out the views of the ocean and try some clam chowder at Moe's, which is a chain yet everyone had been talkinf about the clam chowder. Overratted I thought. The views from the cliff though were awesome!
Must have eaten 6 times today. Seafood just doesn't pack the calories like I have been used to. Once in Lincoln City, I stopped in at Schuckers Oyster Bar, a bit of a dive bar/restaurant looking for directions to the state park nearby though I really was looking to sleep on the beach. "Sure they said, just go down the street and follow the fire road." Thinking I might be the only adventurous one, there were several tents set up amidst all the lumber scattered all over the beach. Tried to set up my tarp for some wind preotection but gave up. Decided to just try and find a spot behind some washed up trees.
Though cold, was a good night listening to the sounds of the ocean as I slept and THE STARS!!
